From the king of rock to the kings of the gridiron, the Silverdome has established itself as a world-renowned facility playing host to some of the most celebrated entertainers and athletes since 1975. Over the years, the Silverdome’s historic line-up has included such artists as Pink Floyd, U2, Madonna, *NSYNC, The Rolling Stones, George Strait, The Who, The Jacksons, Metallica and David Bowie, plus international sporting events, such as 1994 World Cup Soccer (the first indoor stadium to host four first-round soccer games in World Cup History on natural grass), Super Bowl XVI in 1982, the 1979 NBA All-Star Game and The Match of The Titans – AC Milan vs. Panathinaikos in 2010.
The two highest attended events at the Silverdome were in 1987 when 93,682 visited the stadium to hear Pope John Paul II conduct mass and 93,173 fans packed the facility for Wrestlemania III. Patrons have also enjoyed motorcycle and monster truck racing, ride-and-drive events, and NCAA basketball tournaments. In addition, the Silverdome hosts religious gatherings, banquets and carnivals along with trade and consumer shows, such as the Camper, Travel & RV Show, the Boat, Sport and Fishing Show and the Michigan Home and Garden Show.
